Hat and hand

I feel this photograph captures the subject’s emotion and character well. The detail is incredible and the depth of field works well for the image. The background gives the viewer a sense of the subject’s location and lifestyle and further strengthens the viewer’s connection with the subject yet is blurred enough to not be distracting. The subject is well positioned in terms of lighting. The subject’s expression makes me feel like he has a great sense of humor. The point of view helps make the subject look wise and respectable.

The biggest thing I feel should be adjusted is the shadow on the subject’s face. I would like to see the right side of his face with more clarity. I feel that this makes it harder for a viewer to make a connection with the subject. I also think that, to go along with the point of view, the subject would have been better positioned if the picture were composed (or cropped) so the subject’s head were a little closer to the top edge.
